Reconstitution, Handling & Storage of Lyophilized Peptides
A practical protocol for reconstituting, aliquoting, and storing lyophilized research peptides.

Before you start
Lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides are stable at low temperatures but sensitive to moisture, heat, and repeated freeze–thaw cycles. Work in a clean environment and let vials reach room temperature before opening to avoid condensation.
Reconstitution
- Choose a solvent appropriate to the peptide (commonly sterile or bacteriostatic water).
- Add solvent slowly down the inside wall of the vial; do not inject directly onto the powder.
- Swirl gently to dissolve — do not shake.
Storage
- Aliquot to avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
- Store lyophilized product at -20°C; reconstituted product at 2–8°C for short periods or -20°C for longer.
- Label aliquots with contents, concentration, and date.
